I just wanted to warn you guys, 'cause I don't want the same thing to happen to any of you.
I had bought a very simple ceramic fondue set @ one of the big bath stores a few years back, but never used it until tonight. I was sitting down to watch a special show on telly, and decided to celebrate the occasion w/a little chocolate fondue. The bummer however, is that upon firing it up for the first time, the bloody thing broke RIGHT IN HALF. To those of you with very low or no vision, I would -highly- recommend staying away from these inexpensive tea light fondue pots- as I just barely steered clear of a real potential danger (as well as a visit to the emergency room) m'self.
While my chocolate was heating up in the livingroom, I went to the kitchen to slice up some banana for dipping. After a few moments I heard this odd "TINK," and went to inspect the pot. Everything seemed okay, the pot looked fine, so I went back to what I was doing. When I came back to dip a slice of 'nanner in however, I discovered a bevy of tiny little glass shards (shattered ceramic) in my mouth. Upon further inspection, I discovered that the center had suffered a miniature explosion (which had been partially obscured by the 2 squares of chocolate that had just melted in it). It seems that the separate bowl that sits above the tart warmer-like base had given way to the tea light's heat below, making the fondue pot break up the middle; leaving a clean, almost imperceptible divide.
Fortunately I was able to wash away most of the debris w/a quick & vigorous rinsing- but I know there are bits of it still travelling down my esophagus. (I can feel & taste the ceramic past the back of my tongue, and a few mild pokey, hurty, burny sensations travelling down my throat & into my gullet.) As I live alone, I am so grateful that I was at least able to see what was wrong, & wanted to warn those of you who might have less sight, in case you own (or might be tempted to purchase) stuff like this. Heaven forbid someone fails to see the damage the pot has suffered, and accidentally ingests a bunch of shattered ceramics/glass. (Entirely possible, given the consistency of thickly melted chocolate.) Thank Heaven I didn't ingest more- and for my guardian angels!! :D
I can't see much of the maker's emblem on the box, but from what I can read, the maker is CIB/Kingsbridge International Inc., the product name is "Chocolate Delight Fondue Set," and the item number is 44T308 (stock number 3210- printed on the bottom of the box.)
I'm still trying to find the maker online to report this, but for now, I just wanted to warn you all, so you avoid the same- or a worse- fate.

..At least I have 4 new super-sharp skewers now, and a tart warmer base... ;P
