I do have a whole other show planned out for more holiday musical goodness, but for now, if you're looking for (actually GOOD) podsafe music that's fitting (and different from everything you're already heard a hundred-zillion times) for the season, I humbly entreat you to visit my podcast's little station, and listen. ^_^  (Both streaming & download available. :))  There's silly, quirky stuff here, traditional-ish sounding pieces, orchestral pieces, choral works, a kid-friendly piece or two, Celtic-y bits, archaic bits, and swing here n' there, too. :)  (The next ep'll have Dar Williams, some rock-ish stuff, and lots more too. *beams*)

Merry Christmas & Happy Yule Everyone!!!
Nae

For a full show inspired by the fae, w/fae-centric music of all kinds, you're most humbly invited to visit eclecticanetradio.blogspot.com. :) The show includes bands such as: Faun, Omnia, The Gypsy Nomads, Meg Davis, Caprice and many more. :) It was just put up Wednesday to be ready and available for the Thanksgiving holiday, and I really hope those of you who're fans of different types of music, as well as those who dig mythology, folklore & the fae, will like it! ^_^ (And hopefully, there'll be a few more faerie-inspired shows coming up soon! Including one general faerie-ep, as well as one all about merfolk & other aquatic creatures. ^_^)

Many Thanks and Much Love,

"DJ Selchie" :)
I was just sitting here going over my recent blips on Blip.fm, + realized something:

If you wanna get to know more about me, get a feel for my personality, peek into my hopes, dreams, likes & dislikes, or just wanna know what's going on with me & my life atm, the best way to do so is through my music.  Music is the way my heart communicates most directly with, & opens itself most completely to, the world...   Maybe even the Universe...

I guess that's why I'm always trying to share my favorite music w/others- it's how I connect w/the world on the most visceral of levels- and to empathize w/my music is in some way to empathize w/me. :)

Holy crap.. this kid is playing a guitar that's bigger than he is.. and there's real artistry and emotion there..!  Dude..!!! O.O
You go, mijo!!

(So far, the only good thing that's come out of Blip.fm having all those bloody videos innundating their song listings, now. ;))

I wish they'd actually put the playing of the song in, but still... *lol*  Yay for "The Wet Spots!"

Ooh, and then I found this: ^_^

I heard a certain song a very, very long time ago one night at a dance club; when the place was closing down and they were playing their "last song."  It was AWESOME, and all I could remember of it was the rhythm/beat, and the chanting in it of men's voices belting out "Doctor Whoooo-oo, Doctor Who!" over and over again.  There was  also of course the obligatory old-fashioned DW theme music mixed in w/it, and that was it.
Well I've searched for that song off and on for EONS now- ever since I heard it that night at the club- (which has sadly been demolished in recent years, btw), and since all I knew to search for it by were the words "Doctor Who" but not the artists, I never really found anything that fit.
So today I was with some friends celebrating being together & New Year's, and one of these buds (mi amigo [livejournal.com profile] flameofsilver) played something on his laptop that I INSTANTLY recognized- it was my song!! ^_^
Too excited for coherent words I asked him what the music was, who did it, (and if I recall correctly, like seventeen other questions besides), and I discovered it's a song called "Doctorin' the Tardis," by one of my fave dance bands of the 90's- The KLF!!  ^_^
Therefore, to those of you who dig their music, thjust like fun musical pieces, or who just adore Thuh Docktah, 'eeah you ah, my lovelies! ^_^

(And as the Brits say- "RESULT!!!" :D:D)

Hope you enjoy all, and that everyone's New Year's was safe and happy, and full of whatever pleasures you deem appropriate for such occasions. ^_^

Don't think about the style of music these songs are in.. think about how they make you feel.. what they inspire you to imagine...
Cast your mind far away to a time and place that never was.. where steam engines began the first computers, gears and cogs populated everything from factories to fashion, and tophats, corsets, and gritty Victorian fare ruled the day...

Mechanized worlds of wonder and clockspring violins lie in darkened wait- now who will you be? You are the creator.. the inventor.. the created.. the invented.. the airship adventurer, with high buckle boots, telescopic goggles, and a feather in your cap..? Or are you the wildly quaffed damsel who carries an arkubus in your garter and a wicked little blade tucked beneath our tattered, fingerless lace gloves??
...
Now.. lets venture into the smokey streets and Tesla coils of SteamPunk!!

Has anybody else heard about this??  Have you,
[livejournal.com profile] caitilin[livejournal.com profile] belladonnas_web[livejournal.com profile] amethystjade?  I just did a random search after seeing something about steampunkiness online, and combining w/something else I love, and whoa!  I got a ho-ton of links!!  Plus thanks to this, I just discovered a few nifty bands to boot!  "Such as," you say?  Well, there's The Circus Contraption Band (who remind me very much of Tom Waits at times), Abney Park (who actually do cool, somewhat dark n' gothy Steampunk-themed music w/a LOT of ME music influences infuzed into it!), Pentaphobe, Claire Fader, the Beat Circus, and Vermillion Lies.  (The latter few of whom do mostly old fashioned-style stuff w/a modern twist, and make me think of the Dresden Dolls, the Ditty Bops, and Ghost Bees to a point.)

There are tutorials online about how to make SP bellydancing gear, Etsy stores w/such stuff, and YouTube vids that feature SP-themed bellydancing routines.  Who knew??  I feel SO behind the times!!  (But I am LOVING catching up! :D:D)

  1. I have all of LOreena McKennitt's holiday song lyrics! Woot!! :D:D

  2. Owain Phyfe (a big name in the old VA Renn Faire, Starwood, Trad. Music and Rennie communities) is gonna play w/Kiva (a local folksy/pagan-y band of old MD Renn Faire days and the like) coming up on December 19th, 2008!  Anybody wanna come w/me? I can't wait!

  3. Personal Discoveries and Decisions: )
And that's all, folks!!
So.. who wants to come w/me to see Kiva and Owain?? :D:D

I just happened upon an old-timey radio station while here at work- like just a little bit ago today.  That got me thinking of how much I love old-timey music, & reminded me of the fact that I'd like to put some swing & old-time music on my podcast.  So I went onto the internet just moments ago, looking for licensing info.  Then I started thinking about Bing Crosby- did a search on him, and as I'm searching through files of his on a Creative Commons archive site, looking for one specific song- ("Counting Your Blessings") he comes on the radio...  O.O
And -all- of this has happened within the span of about half an hour.  I tuned in while working, got the idea for licensing about five minutes ago, and -boom.-

Yeah.. see?  Moments like -these- are the times where I'm like "yeah.. somebody's GOT to be looking down on me..."

Zachariah just let me use "We're Comin' Ta Kill Ya" for my Lurch, and my podcast! ^_^
Don't know who he is? Well, check out the movie "Dead & Breakfast." (Thanks again, Ms. J! :D:D) It's a fun zombie flick w/he and his music featured through the whole thing. ^_^

Plus, he makes silly stuff like this:
(PS- NOT WORK SAFE UNLESS YOU WEAR HEADPHONES! The visual's fine, but he says a no-no word pretty much throughout the whole thing.)

Hope you enjoy!

The Faerie Festival was pretty good. Good musicians, fun performers, decent vendors.. some scheduling snaffoos, artists that didn't show up for the two classes I -really- wanted to take, a general lack of centralized knowledge for lost/confused guests, and stuff they should've announced being switched around performance-wise, but all in all t'was a good time. I met a lot of kindred spirits. ^_^ ..And I also fried. No shade there aside from one li'l pavillion, at all. So Sat from nine-thirty to six thirty the palor I was so proud to've gained gave way to burning brown, and Sunday I was more prepared with a 'brella, sunsreen and repellant fer da buggies.  I got some trĂ©s cool stuffs, and can't wait till FaerieCon, now! :D:D

My apt. AND my office have been having A/C problems all lasst week and still are this week.

But over that time period I've also found a lot of groovy things:

http://www.zilonsonic.com/  AWESOME music-inspired art that totally rocks!!
http://www.thegypsynomads.com/  A cool new band I encountered over the weekend. ^_^
www.ravenstory.com  A storyteller named Joshua Safford whom I saw at a renn faire -eons- ago, who happened to be at the Faerie Festival. ^_^
www.capitalpride.org/  Who wants to join me Weds for Bi night, or Sat. or Sun. for the parade or festival? :D:D
(Here's the schedule.)

Today's Music Theme of the Day is..:
SOUNDTRACKS!!!

Got a favorite piece of music from a soundtrack or two?  (Or, if you're like me, say- 20? ;D)  Lemme know an' I'll put 'em up here, an' maybe make a playlist out of 'em! :D:D

Seconldy, a silver squirrel (or was it a chipmucnk??  I can never tell...) Practically followed me on my way to the bus yesterday.  It let me get real close (so I could see it pretty darned well!) and then he just ran along the fence that's beside the sidewalk as I passed on my way to work in tha mornin'. ^_^  T'was KEEN!!

My favorite male cousin Matthew is about to get married to a lovely lass by the name of Amber, and they've -just- asked me to sing for their wedding on Saturday. (O.O) They contemplated some songs but couldn't decide on one, so they've just said they want me to pick something and that "whatever I'll sing will be beautiful..." I'm delighted to pieces but now I'm kinda buggin' because my time's growing SHORT, and (of course) I'm having trouble picking which piece to sing. So I put it to you folks: [Poll #1170973][Poll #1170973]

Thanks for your input, guys! ^_^
