I know that this is more of a pronunciation thing than a grammatical issue, but I swear- if I hear one more commercial or advertising/public official (hell- just anybody at this point) say "lab top" again, I think I"m gonna scream. It's called a "LAP TOP!!" It's a computer meant for portable use- ON YOUR LAP. It was not invented FOR BLEEDING USE IN A LABORATORY. (I mean, they use them there, but that's not the original intent for the the item in question...)
*grrr!* There is a freaking "p" in the word "lap." Not a bloody "b!!!"
I just heard a commercial promising loans to people so they could expressly get computers, and the bloke on the telly continually kept calling it a bloody "lap top." Now, I wouldn't be bothered if somebody just couldn't pronounce the "p" and had to use "b" instead. But he (like many) pronounced the last "p" in the phrase just fine. So.. WTF???
I've been hearing this use more and more often, and it drives me freaking crazy. ..Especially since w/all the mispronunciation running rampant where this term's concerned nowadays, I'm pretty certain there are whole droves of people writing it that way- as if it had a damned "b" in it...
