There used to be this cute little show on TLC called "David the Gnome" that I occasionally watched in college when I came back to my dorm from morning classes. It was a fun li'l show, but my favorite part was always the gnomish architecture. They had these great little beds that were tucked away into built-in drawer-looking things, and others (for the adults) that were hidden behind these beautiful, raised doors. All the beds were raised off the floor, and fit into these marvelous little cubbyholes so that when their doors were shut, you wouldn't even know they were there- unless you were familiar w/that arch. style. Well, I know that style in the show based on a real culture's architecture, and I'd -love- to find out which, and what those awesome hideaway beds were called. My grandfather had one a long time ago that didn't have doors, but it was built into its own pocket inside one wall, elevated about 4 feet up, and just big enough to hold a large mattress (in width and depth) and for the sleeper(s) to sit up and/or get in the bed w/some decent headroom. There was even a little window that spanned the length of the space. So I'm askin'.. does anyone know what these bed/cubby spaces are called, or what architecture type they're from? Swiss Cottage? Rustic Swedish..? I am -so- lost...
Any help would be grand. ^_^
Thanks!
-EDIT: Apparently my powers of verbal illustration fail me in this endeavor, so if you need a better pic in your mind, check out this crude illustration. Perhaps it'll give ya a better idea of what I mean:

And this, from the opening of the show. (Again, not the best shot, but hopefully it'll help you get the idea.) They're spinning in front of their bed, w/the children's bed/dresser right next to it; both built right into the wall. :)
