I started taking my first bellydance courses ever a few weeks back w/Galena (or Kelly, as some of you may know her), and have been loving every minute ot it.  I want to take more, ('cause I'm lovin' Kelly's classes and want to learn as much as I can.), so at this past Palace of Wonders event (called Danse du Ventre, celebrating all types of bellydance), when I took a mini, on-stage crash course from Belladonna (formerly of the Romka dance troupe), I got a real, quickie look at her teaching style.  -And even up onstage for a wee 15 minutes, this girl is intense!! :D

So now that she's about to have a Beginner Level Tribal Fusion Techniques 1 class opening up in Vienna VA starting 4 days after my birthday (Wednesday, September 9th, 2009), and I've got both the time and little bit of money it's gonna cost, I've decided to say "happy birthday to me!" & jump in and take my first set of courses from her! :D:D

She offers this particular class on Wednesdays, but she's got others spread throughout the week @ the same location.  (I'm hoping that maybe I'll be good enough to advance to the next set of classes pretty quickly-- but as Tribal is different- and in many ways MUCH more exacting and physically taxing than other styles of dance, I have -no- idea how that'll go...  *keeping fingers crossed*)

As one of the best performers in the area, I've been hoping to take lessons from Bella for a while now.  But for various reasons, couldn't.   However, now I -can,- and I'm looking forward to the exacting eye, precision skill and expert nature of this amazing lady and demanding teacher. ^_^  (And I say demanding in -good- way.  I'm not spending a ton of money and time going to classes just to waste my time.  I want to learn how to be the best I can be:  To -really absorb- how to be as precise and correct in my dance techniques as I can get.   I look forward to the workout it'll give me, the refinement it'll instill, and the critical eye and level of mastry that will hopefully help eek those things out of me; thus taking me further along the road to getting to being a really good, capable dancer. :):D)
-I would say "like her," but I ain't five eight, have the same background, body makeup, lifestyle or experience she does, (nor am I made of gorgeous), so I can't exactly hope for that one. ;D

But I think I got really a good, (if quick) flavor of how she keeps a sharp eye on her pupils, asks a lot of her students and demands attention to detail and quality from them; something which I really like, appreciate- and in some, small, wee sense of the word, fear- just a little bit.  As a big girl (let alone being a VI one), I don't wanna disappoint her, or myself, in not being able to carry off the moves, drills, or precision that may be required to get really good results from this class.   I'm just hoping I have the stamina, insight, ability, talent and wearwithall, to not only do what's necessary in the class, but also to shine- even if it is just in my own quirky, jumbled-up and spacy kind of way. ;)

Anyhoo- this was my present to myself for making it through yet another year.  $150 and 10 weeks' worth of lessons from one of the best teachers this area has to offer.  (And we've got some GOOD'ns!!! :D)  I'm just hoping I'll be able to perform up to her standards, as well as mine. ^_=

Wish me Luck!!!

P.S.  For more info, you should totally check out www.born2dancestudio.com.  Belladonna seems like she'll be a totally rockin' teacher, and I know both onstage as well as off she's incredibly nice. :):)  (Even if she may be kickin' yer but w/drills and painful dance moves. ;D)   Maybe we'll get to take classes together- and Id love having friends & familiar faces there along w/me! :D:D
*hugs*
